‘Time Will Tell’

‘Time will tell’ they told me.

I waited.

I waited some more.

I stared outside at the rain pattering on the window as I waited.

My friend pitied me and encouraged me to go do something.

‘I will wait.’ I replied. ‘She’ll answer.’

I waited.

She moved on.

‘You and I won’t work.’ she finally said.

I said nothing in reply, and then stared outside at the rain again.

‘Time will tell’ they told me.

It did.

I didn’t want to be told.
