Greetings my intrepid friends.
Have you ever enjoyed a local shop that was special to you?
Well, I have. In a cozy Vancouver suburb is nestled the small locally-owned Joe’s Farms, a small grocery, fruit and vegetable farms and orchards that sells new food and commodities year round.
Sadly, after seventy years of service the owner, Joe Beaudoin is retiring.
My wife and I started going to Joe’s Farms last year. She helped teach a city boy like me to pick fruit; test the ripeness, to look out for bug infestation, and to tell when a certain fruit is due soon.
We picked peaches, apples, peppers and eggplants there I remember grinning from ear to ear as I picked the heavy vegetables from the ground!
I will miss Joe’s Farms.
They sell many products ranging from syrups to fresh vegetables to baked goods. My latest buy was a triple chocolate chip cookie mix.
Within their facilities are friendly staff who welcomed us, spoke of the owner and wished us a good day. My wife and I got a good local feel from the place; there were pictures of the owner during the early days of the farm, and vintage photos of the land plots being seeded.
You’ve probably read this whole article and are left wondering: “but why are you writing about this, intrepid?”
My answer: because it was a special place for me and so many others in my community.

I think everyone has places like this that are dear to them. It’ a shame when they stop (either forced or going into retirement). I have a story in my local town that’s selling games, and it’s always been a favorite of mine. The shopkeeper and his wife are just so friendly and offer such great service, that it’s one of those places that just feels right. 😊

This place looks great! The farmers markets are great here in Oregon and they have a few winter markets that move indoors during the colder months 🙂
