Hello my intrepid food-lovers!
Have any of you ever had garlic bread before? Maybe you’ve had the Texas Toast brand or a good Italian friend who knows a classy recipe. Either way here’s my humble take on this underrated dish.
2 1/2 cups of flour
2 tsp of dried yeast
5 tbsp. of olive oil (alternatively 5 tbsp. of butter)
2 plugs of fresh minced garlic
Generous pouring of Italian Seasoning
1 1/2 tsp of salt
1 tsp of sugar
1 1/2 cups of warm water
1 sliced tomato (optional)
Handful of chopped basil leaves (optional)
Take your warm water and pour into a deep bowl. Add yeast and sugar to water and allow yeast to dissolve.
Add flour to the mixture and stir until mixture renders a moldable ball. Add 2 tbsp. of olive oil and roll dough in hand. Smooth out dough mixture and leave in bowl and cover with thick towel. Leave for two hours.
With the dough mass expanded add salt, Italian seasoning and minced garlic. Roll around the dough to trap all ingredients as evenly as possible.
Lightly oil or butter the loaf pan. Add dough mixture to loaf pan. Dough should be at least 1/4 in below the fill line (as dough will expand).
Set oven to 425F and bake bread for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove bread from oven. Wet top and sides of loaf with remaining olive oil (or butter) and garnish with mozzarella cheese. Once cut into slices bread can be served with rich tomato slices and basil.
